Access to the Tool
How much does it cost to have access to the tool?
The NACUBO Benchmarking Tool is a complimentary service available to all current institutional NACUBO members that participated in the 2017 Tuition Discounting Study (TDS), 2016 NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments (NCSE), or 2018 Student Financial Services (SFS) survey.
How do I know if my institution participated in the NACUBO research studies?
If you think you think your institution participated in one or more of these studies but you cannot access the tool, please contact the NACUBO research staff at email@example.com.
Who at my institution has access to the tool?
The NACUBO Benchmarking Tool follows an "enterprise" model, which allows all staff at each participating institution access to the tool. NACUBO will formally announce the availability of data in the tool to your institution’s primary representative to NACUBO and any contact person specific to the NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study, NACUBO Endowment Study, or Student Financial Services survey to ensure that participating institutions are aware of the tool’s availability.
How do I participate in the NACUBO research studies so I will be able to use the tool in the future?
Data collection for the NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments and NACUBO Tuition Discounting Survey occurs in the fall of each year. The Student Financial Services survey is launched in the early spring. If you would like to participate in one or more of these surveys, please contact the NACUBO research staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Using the Tool
I participated in the 2017 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study, 2016 NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments, and/or the 2018 Student Financial Services survey. How do I access the tool?
To login to the tool, follow the instructions below:
- Visit "My NACUBO" on the NACUBO website. You will find the "My NACUBO" link on the right hand sidebar on the NACUBO website homepage.
- At the login screen, enter your business e-mail address and password for "My NACUBO". If this is the first time logging into "My NACUBO", or if you have forgotten your password, enter your business e-mail address and click "forgot your password" and it will be emailed to you. If you would like to change your password, you can do so once you are logged in. At the top of the left hand sidebar, click on "Reset Password."
- Once logged in to "My NACUBO", scroll down the page and click on NACUBO Online Benchmarking Tool located under Online Research. If your institution participated in the TDS, the NCSE, or the SFS, the NACUBO Benchmarking Tool will be available to you.
Are there instructions on how to use the tool?
Yes. A tutorial is available once you have logged into the tool. After logging into the tool, click on the "Getting Started" tab on the top menu bar to view the tutorial.
If you would like to see the demonstration before logging into the tool, or if you do not have access to the tool but are interested in seeing a demonstration, you can also access the tutorial from the NACUBO Benchmarking Tool main webpage.
How do the Summary Reports and Peer Group Based Reports in the tool differ?
The tool is organized into two different report types: Summary Reports and Peer Group Based Reports. The Summary Reports contain tables that allow you to view the aggregate averages based on all study participants for a particular measure, compared with your institution. The Peer Group Based reports allow you to customize reports based on the unique peer group you have defined for your institution, and compare these peer averages with your institution.
How many institutions can I have in my peer groups, and will I be permitted to change them later?
A minimum of five institutions is required for your peer group, and a limited number of peer groups are permitted, depending on which part of the tool you use. Once you select your peer group, you will not be able to change it. Though these two restrictions can be limiting, they were put in place in order to protect the confidentiality of your and your peers’ data. If you have questions related to your peer group, please contact the NACUBO research staff at email@example.com.
Please note that because the NACUBO Benchmarking Tool follows an "enterprise" model that allows all staff at your institution access to the tool, it is important that you coordinate with the appropriate people on your campus about defining your institution’s peer groups.
Why is my institution’s data missing for particular years?
If your institution did not participate in a particular year of the NCSE, TDS, or SFS, no data will be shown for your institution.
Is my institution’s data confidential?
Yes. Only your institution will be permitted to view your individual institution data. Reports are generated in the aggregate for peer group comparisons.
Future of the Tool
Will other datasets besides Tuition Discounting be available in the tool?
NACUBO anticipates that the tool will eventually include data from other financial-related surveys. Plans for future expansion are currently on-going. If you have ideas you would like to share about future datasets you would like to see in the tool, please send your thoughts to the NACUBO research staff at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I don't see the answer to my question here.
