Bill Sliwa comes to NACUBO Consulting with over 30 years of higher education experience. He served as vice president for enrollment at Lees-McRae College and Maryville College. Sliwa also served as chief enrollment officer at Moravian College and director of admissions at Utica College.
He is an industry expert on customer relationship management systems and financial aid leveraging, as well as strategic enrollment planning and retention. Sliwa also understands the balance of net revenue and budget planning.
Among career highlights are:
- While at Maryville College, he initiated a deep dive into first year retention that led to an increase of 9 percent in year over year. This achievement was done in conjunction with the data science faculty and their algorithm to predict first-year GPA based on data points that included high school CEEB code, GPA, and test scores.
- While at Lees-McRae, Sliwa oversaw the institution’s first-ever brand study and new brand rollout. Additionally, he navigated the RFP process to identify the right vendor for marketing and communications for enrollment, leading to record numbers of new first-year students.
- Serving as an interim at Alfred University, he introduced the idea of a budget planning committee and three-year budget models. This forecasting allowed the college to better align priorities in spending and create a strategic budget plan that included components of the strategic enrollment plan. That plan prioritized retention and enrollment growth.
He is fond of the statement, “no one cares how much you know until they know how much you care,” and Sliwa brings that attitude into all of the relationships with our clients and prospective clients.
