Hezekiah Simmons
Hezekiah Simmons brings his experience in strategic planning and facilities planning to NACUBO Consulting. For the past 18 years, Simmons has been the CFO and vice president of administrative services at Monroe Community College (MCC).
During his tenure at MCC, he chaired committees for the five-year strategic plans and the ten-year facilities master plan. These strategic plans enabled MCC to lead community colleges in the SUNY system to design and implement the students’ guided pathways framework and facilitated a robust workforce development program that led to the implementation of the federal TAACCT Grant (a $15M program) for 23 of the 30 SUNY community colleges.
As part of the facilities master plan, significant infrastructure projects were vetted and several selected with student success as the priority. The plans led to the acquisition of a large mothballed manufacturing facility, demolishing the internal structure, and refurbishing into a new downtown campus within Rochester. This $78M project was completed on time and within budget.
Other substantive accomplishments/achievements include:
- Created a “return-to-complete” academic achievement program for former students having been denied re-entry due to unpaid tuition and fees for three or more years.
- Launched a U-Pass bus service enabling all students to travel by public transportation service anytime and anywhere, facilitating an efficient mode of transportation for more than 5,000 students and staff per week. – ridership of 5,000 per week
- Served as a member of the Middle States Steering Committee for Recertification.
- Despite the decline in enrollment, grew monthly cash balances from $35M to $57M through cost and cash management while still prioritizing student success.
Simmons is a past president of the SUNY Community Colleges Business Officers Association. He earned a BS cum laude in chemistry from Johnson C. Smith University and an MBA from Harvard University Business School. He also has certificates of international relations from the Wharton School of Finance and the INSEAD Business School in Fontainebleau, France.
