He served as chief academic officer for seventeen years at two different liberal arts institutions—Manchester University (Indiana) and Oglethorpe University (Georgia). In addition, he helped each campus open new academic buildings. He has also been part of program prioritization efforts and maximizing new student revenue. He is experienced with both traditional and non-traditional age populations

Sharfman has led accreditation efforts at SACSCOC and worked for twenty-five years for institutions under North Central. He now chairs accreditation teams for SACSCOC. He has been active in CIC programs and is familiar with the many issues facing liberal arts institutions. Currently, he serves as professor of history at Oglethorpe University, specializing in modern global history and the Holocaust. He holds a BA from Miami University and an MA and PhD from UNC-Chapel Hill.
