Ron Maples has experience in accounting, budget, cash management and investments, endowment, equipment/asset accounting, financial reporting, grants and contracts, fiscal policy administration, internal audit, and SAP administrative support functions. During his career, he also worked with state legislative education committees and increasing student success and completion rates at the state level.
Maples served the University of Tennessee (UT) for over four decades, most recently as treasurer. He also served as assistant treasurer for the University of Tennessee’s development and research foundations, leading to an interim CFO appointment at the development foundation. Maples was also a member of the UT-Battelle bid team that won the U.S. Department of Energy’s contract to manage Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and he served as a member of the transition team assuming its role as lab co-manager.
Maples was the university’s primary representative to the Council on Governmental Relations (COGR) from 1990 - 2020. He served on the COGR Board from 2008-2014 and on the COGR costing committee from 2005 to 2014. He was COGR treasurer from 2010 to 2014 and 2016 to present. He also serves as a member of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory Savings and Retirement Investment Committee.
Maples earned a BS in accounting from the UT Knoxville, in 1974. He obtained the designations of certified public accountant in 1979 and certified internal auditor in 1982.
