David Maddox
David Maddox has worked with colleges and universities across the U.S. in developing financial models and budget systems, assessing organizational models and administrative costs, and building new operating and funding models. His areas of expertise include resource allocation models, decision models, and the launch of major new initiatives.
Most recently, Maddox served as interim vice provost for academic budget and planning at Portland State University. He worked with colleagues there to develop an innovative new budget allocation model that integrates multiple factors and incentives, and he led the academic units through budget actions necessary to deal with decreases in funding. He dealt with a diverse range of issues, including reserve management, enrollment planning, and relationships with online program managers.
Previously he was the inaugural chief operating officer for the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) at the University of Washington. GIX is a partnership between UW, Tsinghua, and Microsoft to create a physical and organizational space for collaboration between universities and with the private sector.
Maddox earned his B.A. from Amherst College, M.A. from the University of Chicago, and MBA from Vanderbilt.
