Sharon L. Heinle is the Associate Vice President & Controller for the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. Prior to joining GMU, Sharon held a similar position at the George Washington University in Washington, DC. At both universities, Sharon led teams responsible for accounting, internal and external financial reporting and analysis, tax, financial systems, and maintaining strong systems of internal controls over financial data and assets. Prior to joining the higher ed industry in 2007, Sharon worked for a national NFP entity and also spent time as an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC). Sharon is a CPA licensed in DC, holds a BSBA degree with a concentration in Accounting from Georgetown University, and holds the CGMA designation from the AICPA. Sharon serves on NACUBO’s Accounting Principles Council and represents the higher education industry on the AICPA's Not For Profit Expert Panel.
