Agency Action
ED Extends Annual HEERF Reporting
In a series of communications with NACUBO, the Department of Education has indicated that the portal will remain open for annual 2021 HEERF reporting until at least May 20. ED made this decision due to a deluge of help desk requests and a desire to provide additional support to institutions. Institutions needing additional time or assistance are encouraged to review a list of ED resources and NACUBO’s accounting tutorial, reach out to the HEERF Helpdesk, or email NACUBO.
New HEERF Quarterly Reporting Form Proposed by OMB
On May 11, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released an updated proposed quarterly reporting form. The draft aligns with the annual reporting form. There is a 30-day comment period that closes on June 10, 2022. In light of experience with the 2021 annual HEERF report, institutions are encouraged to submit comments or contact NACUBO for inclusion in our comment letter.
SEC to Extend Comment Deadline
According to a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) press release, the agency will open a new 30-day period for public comment on proposed rules that would require additional transparency from private fund managers. The extension follows requests from stakeholders across the community, including comments from NACUBO. We will publish an update when the new deadline is made official in the Federal Register.
ED Announces 2022 Green Ribbon Schools
The Department of Education announced 36 schools, districts, and postsecondary institutions as 2022 Green Ribbon Schools. The four postsecondary institutions recognized are American University, Northwestern University, Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, and University of Wisconsin, Osh Kosh.
ED Expands Second Chance Pell
The Department of Education has invited 73 additional colleges and universities to participate in its Second Chance Pell Experiment, which provides financial aid to incarcerated individuals earning credentials. In total, 200 institutions may currently participate in the experiment, which ED is using to identify best practices ahead of a planned reinstatement of Pell Grant access for incarcerated individuals in July 2023.
