Overview

In academic year 2021-22, private colleges and universities significantly discounted listed tuition and fee prices for most students—continuing a long upward march in discount rates that only accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, as in-person learning shut down at most higher education institutions, many private colleges instituted new pricing strategies to account for the shift to online and learning modalities.

It is now more important than ever for chief business officers, chief enrollment officers, and other campus administrators to evaluate their discounting and pricing strategies and the effects they have on net tuition revenue and college affordability and to explore new concepts.  This webcast reviews the findings of the 2021 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study. The webcast has an overview of the changes in average discounting rates during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years, and provides more details about the pricing and enrollment strategies private colleges implemented to deal with the effects of COVID-19. The panelists will discuss the complex factors that go into new tuition discounting, enrollment, and financial aid strategies.
