Responsibility center management (RCM) can help institutions better manage margins, drive efficiency, and evaluate programs and investment. RCM should help with multi-year planning and promote innovation, but a complete switch to this budget model does not work for every institution, especially in years with shrinking net revenues. Join Jim Hundrieser, vice president for NACUBO Consulting, and David Maddox, NACUBO consultant and former interim vice provost for academic budget and planning at Portland State University, for a conversation about a lighter version of RCM. Topics will include the pros and cons of RCM, potential goals for an RCM-light approach, and budget and planning models to achieve these goals.
