Who Should Apply

The Emerging Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program for finance and business professionals from NACUBO-member colleges and universities. Ideal candidates are mid-level managers two or three roles away from senior leadership positions. Applicants should be identified as professionals who demonstrate a strong desire to remain in higher education finance and administration and have high potential for career advancement.

NACUBO embraces principles and practices that acknowledge value in diversity of race, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, culture, national origin, physical and mental ability, and all the other fascinating characteristics that make us unique. NACUBO seeks and strongly encourages candidates from under-represented identity groups in higher education leadership (i.e., women, people of color, LGBTQIA+) to apply for the Emerging Leaders Program.

The program represents a substantial investment in the personal and professional development of participants. Applicants for the program should commit to the following:

  • Attend and fully participate in the sessions, both online and in person, outlined in the schedule
  • Complete the pre-work and intersession work and attend small group meetings
  • Apply the learning in current position on campus

Beginning with a program orientation for participants and their managers in September 2022, the Emerging Leaders Program will include multiple training sessions with the full cohort of participants, meetings of small groups, and individual activities and assignments. Program Fee

The Emerging Leaders Program fee of $2,495 includes registration for a minimum of 11 online cohort convenings and an in-person gathering October 2-4, 2022 (location TBD). Leadership assessments, course materials, and distance learning support are also included. Participants will receive certificates of completion at the conclusion of the program.

If selected for the 2022-23 NACUBO Emerging Leaders Program, the full program fee of $2,495 is due by July 22, 2022.

In addition to the program fee, participants are responsible for transportation costs to and from the October 2-4, 2022, meeting (Chicago, IL). Hotel rooms on October 2 and 3 and meals during the program are included in the Emerging Leaders Program fee.

A limited number of partial scholarships will be available to applicants from under-resourced institutions who would otherwise not be able to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program. The selection of recipients is at NACUBO's discretion and subject to available funding, and preference for the scholarships will be given to applicants from under-represented identity groups in higher education leadership (i.e., women, people of color, LGBTQIA+), historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), community colleges, tribal colleges and universities, and/or institutions serving a significant percentage of Pell-eligible students. Applicants will indicate their interest and eligibility for the scholarship support when completing the application for the program.

Ensuring Your Safety

The COVID-19 situation in the United States is fluid, and we continue to monitor developments that may impact attendees of NACUBO's in-person programs. As such, we will continue to update the safety precautions outlined below as appropriate to minimize risks to conference attendees and staff.

NACUBO is requiring all registrants for in-person programs to be fully vaccinated* prior to participating in NACUBO's in-person programs. We are working with a third-party organization, CLEAR Health Pass, regarding the process and logistics for vaccination documentation.

This requirement is consistent with a growing trend for conferences and other events/activities.

*Fully vaccinated status is defined as having received all the required doses of an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine primary series (2 doses of Moderna, 2 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine) at least two weeks before the Emerging Leaders Program in-person meeting (October 2-4, 2022). While vaccine boosters are not required, NACUBO highly encourages attendees to receive recommended boosters when eligible.

We also recommend that attendees wear masks while traveling to and from the event and follow COVID-safe practices in the weeks leading up to the event. Masks will be available on site if you need one, and if it is your preference to wear one.

Application Process

The application period for the 2023-24 program will open in Spring 2023.
