About John D. Walda

Profile

John Walda’s career has spanned three decades in both law and public policy. Mr. Walda most recently served as a partner in the Litigation Group of Bose McKinney & Evans, representing clients both from Indianapolis and Washington, D.C. He has achieved recognition in the legal community through several high profile cases, including his representation of the State of Indiana in the national tobacco litigation.

In addition to his role with Bose McKinney & Evans, as Senior Vice President - Federal Relations for BoseTreacy Associates LLC, Mr. Walda intensified the firm’s presence in Washington, D.C., and opens the door to increased representation of clients in the federal lobbying and regulatory arenas, both nationally and internationally. Mr. Walda also served at Indiana University (IU) as executive director of federal relations. He also served as president of IU Trustees from 1992-1993 and again from 1994-2002.

In addition to his service to IU, Mr. Walda served as national chair of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Previously, he also was chairman of the Indiana Lottery Commission and chairman of Clarian Health Partners board of directors.

Mr. Walda is admitted to practice law before the Indiana state courts, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits, United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan and the Montana state courts.

Representative Matters

  • Represented the State of Indiana in the national tobacco litigation, which was ultimately settled and brought billions of dollars to Indiana for health and related projects
  • Successfully defended a national food processing company against damages in a national recall of product
  • Successfully defended a construction contractor against a multi-million dollar claim for deficiencies in a corporate headquarters building
  • Defended a regional daily newspaper in a multi-million dollar libel claim
  • Defended tire companies, pharmaceutical companies, automotive manufacturers and others in numerous product liability cases
  • Represented clients in arbitration and litigation on substantial construction disputes
  • Represents clients in the municipal, health care and higher education areas in Congress and before federal agencies
