Timely tax issues for colleges and universities are the focus of NACUBO’s annual Tax Forum. IRS officials, campus tax professionals and other higher education tax experts address tax topics to help keep you current on IRS rules, as well as provide you with practical advice and tips for managing the tax administration and compliance of your institution.
Program Highlights
Briefings from IRS officials on up-to the minute developments affecting higher education, including:
- new leadership and current regulatory projects in the exempt organizations division
- a brief report on projects and enforcement activities in the bonds area
- insight into nonresident alien audits of colleges and universities, which began last year.
Our annual "round up" of university tax issues--a look at recent happenings that college and university tax managers need to know about, including:
- current perspectives on the controversial student FICA regulations proposed by IRS this year
- recent Congressional interest in increasing IRS scrutiny of 501(c)(3)organizations
- legislation impacting donations of intellectual property.
Many institutions still grapple with streamlining their approach to corporate sponsorships, although final regulations were published a few years ago. A panel presentation maps out four steps for managing corporate sponsorship agreements. This practical session provides a framework for applying IRS unrelated business income tax rules to sponsorship arrangements on campus.
For the first time, the program includes a session addressing tax issues that institutions face when doing business or having employees in other jurisdictions. A panel of experts helps you identify key facts and shares approaches for addressing tax problems that may arise when your institution conducts business out of state or outside the U.S.
Other topics include:
- key retirement and deferred compensation plan voluntary rules and voluntary compliance plans
- managing intermediate sanctions
- compliance with charitable giving rules.
An interactive networking session enables participants to address current challenges and to benefit from the knowledge and experience of others.
