NACUBO's Professional Development Department is dedicated to sustaining excellence and supporting innovation in higher education business management and administration. NACUBO covers seven broad categories for administrators at the basic, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Self-Study Programs

  • Essentials of College & University Accounting - This self-study Webcast presents the fundamental accounting concepts, terminology and definitions used by higher education institutions.  Participants move at their own pace through approximately 5 hours of instruction, exercises and assessment questions to enhance understanding of fund accounting, resource restrictions, financial statements and more.
  • Facilities & Administrative Rate Short Form Online - This program provides an overview of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-21, Section H - the simplified method.  Cost accounting standards and facilities and administrative (F&A) rate cost pools are reviewed.

PREP

Professional Resources and Events Planner (PREP) organizes and displays programs, products, and services developed and delivered primarily by the five higher education business officers associations.  It also includes articles, books and products created by other higher education associations and corporate partners.

The site is designed to be useful for those seeking specific continuing education opportunities and for those who wish to create a plan for ongoing personal professional development.  For supervisors, it provides guidance by offering a model of effective competencies.

PREP can be searched five ways:

  • Type of resource: articles, books, book chapters, CDRoms, listservs, subscriptions services, effective practices, research, Webcasts, and websites.
  • Events: by location, by sponsor, by topic, and by calendar.
  • Topic: competency categories - organizational, personal, and technical. 
  • Role: chief business officer and staff in the business office. 
  • Key words: any term can be entered to identify all the products or services associated with a concept.
