The following resources are available to promote safe computing on campus:
- www.staysafeonline.info for information on how to stay safe online and top 10 cyber security tips
- Protection From Cyber Attacks is an excerpt from Mission Continuity Planning in Higher Education: Strategically Assessing and Planning for Threats to Operations outlining a 12 step program that can be used as a guide to protecting computer systems and networks from cyber attacks.
As a member of the Higher Education Alliance for Information Technology (HEIT), NACUBO joins alliance members to guide institutions of higher education as they make it a higher priority and spend more resources to secure campus networks because of the growing numbers of vulnerabilities (e.g., viruses, worms, spyware, etc.) that pose a risk to their institutional reliance on information technology or that threaten the privacy of personal information. The EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer and Network Security Task Force remains actively engaged in coordinating higher education’s efforts to improve the security of the portion of cyberspace that is under its control. Convened by the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) and EDUCAUSE in 1997, the alliance represents higher education's collective interests in federal information technology policy. Watch this space for important news about meetings and actions of the alliance.
Colleges and universities have an obligation to protect sensitive information and to prevent their systems from being used for attacks on others. On February 14, 2003, the White House issued the National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace. More information is available at the EDUCAUSE National Strategy Web site. |
