The Clery Act: Back to Basics Campus crime reporting is a complex and time-consuming undertaking for colleges and universities. Under the Clery Act, colleges and universities are required to publish annual campus security reports that disclose policy information and crime statistics as well as maintain a crime log. NACUBO and IACLEA co-sponsored the Web cast to inform campus administrators and security personnel about the importance of complying with the Clery Act, as well as educating participants on the more complex elements of the law. Failure to comply with the law may result in fines, but more importantly, the negative publicity resulting from the mere allegation of noncompliance can affect the reputation of an institution.
YOU WILL LEARN:
- The complex issues surrounding campus crime reporting
- Who needs to be involved on campus
- How to request data from the local authorities
- What areas need to be included in the report
- Common mistakes that institutions make in their reporting
