Enterprise Risk Management 101: Where to start?

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) means addressing risk in a holistic manner on your campus. How does ERM differ from previous approaches to risk management? What tools exist via the ERM model that make sense to implement on your campus? This webcast will introduce the basic elements of ERM and provide tools and information on how to begin implementation on your campus.

Following this webcast, join us in Chicago during the NACUBO Annual Meeting where we will hold a session on ERM Implementation Strategies. A panel of representatives from Emory, Penn State and the University of California system will discuss their various institutional implementation approaches and lessons learned.

  • How to evaluate aspects of risk like probability, financial risk, etc.,
  • How to prioritize and organize your risks
  • How to plan for the mitigation of these risks

Meet the Presenters:

  • Dr. Paul Walker is a professor at the University of Virginia who has done extensive work related to risk and co-developed one of the first university courses on enterprise risk management. He has published numerous articles on ERM.
  • James A. Hyatt has served as the Chief Financial Officer at University of California, Berkeley and most recently at Virginia Tech. He currently serves as the Project Director and Principal Investigator for the National Campus Safety and Security Project.
