AGB/NACUBO Looking Under the Hood Institutional Aid Metrics Project
With funding from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation and additiional support from The College Board, NACUBO and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges launched the Looking Under the Hood Institutional Aid Metrics Project in 2012. The key component of the project is the development of a set of institutional grant aid metrics that enable higher education CBOs, presidents, and board members to examine their current institutional grant aid allocations and policies, and to better plan their future institutional aid decisions. These metrics are designed to help leaders gain a greater understanding of the impact of their institutional aid policies and practices. Examples of metrics include: total institutional grant aid per full-time equivalent student; percentage of institutional grant dollars awarded based on students' demonstrated financial need; and total institutional grant expenditures as a share of total institutional operating expenses. See the April 2014 edition of Business Officer Magazine for a detailed summary of the project. A summary of the project is also available from AGB's Trusteeship Magazine. And the October 2015 edition of Business Officer Magazine provides an updated summary of the project and a case study of how one institution is using the tool to take a more detailed look at their institutional aid policies.
AGB and NACUBO have issued a comprehensive summary report about the project to the Woodruff Foundation.
Featured Product: the Looking Under the Hood Institutional Aid Metrics Benchmarking Tool
AGB and NACUBO have contracted with Peerfocus to create the Looking Under the Hood Project Institutional Aid Metrics Benchmarking Tool. This new tool displays over 30 student aid metrics for NACUBO and AGB member institutions, and allows members to compare their various institutional grant aid metrics with national average and with self-selected peer institutions. The tool is designed to allow higher education chief business officers, chief executive officers, board of trustee members, and other senior leaders to have an in-depth internal discussion on their institutional aid allocations. Tool data are currently available for 1,400 public and private nonprofit two- and four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
Access to the tool is limited to campus presidents and system chief executives, chief business/finance officers, selected institutional board of trustee members, and senior staff/administrators responsible for overseeing admissions, enrollment, and financial aid. To request access, please send an e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
