Last week, 25 NACUBO members visited with policymakers in Washington to respond to public perceptions about college affordability, the prices students pay, and the costs incurred by colleges and universities.

National Cohort Default Rate Hits 5-Year Low

Data released from the Department of Education show the three-year cohort default rate for federal student loans decreased to 11.3 percent in FY13 from 11.8 percent in FY12.

Data Collection Begins October 11 for 2016 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study

All four-year private nonprofit colleges and universities that are members of NACUBO are eligible to participate in the Tuition Discounting Study (TDS). Contact nacubo.research@nacubo.org by Friday, October 7 to be included in the survey.

ED Reminds Institutions to Submit, Post Banking Contracts Online

The Department of Education last week published guidance reminding schools with Tier 1 or Tier 2 arrangements under the cash management regulations to post to their websites contracts or agreements with banks or third-party servicers that provide students with Title IV credit balance refunds. Schools with these arrangements must also submit the contract to ED for inclusion in an online database.

Congress Funds Federal Government Through December 9

A stopgap spending bill is in place keeping the federal government operating until lawmakers reconvene after Election Day. Federal FY17 began October 1 but most federal agencies will temporarily operate at FY16 levels.
