The Department of Veterans Affairs is asking institutions to commit to comply with the “Principles of Excellence” outlined in a recent Executive Order. NACUBO recommends that members hold off on agreeing until further guidance is provided on several provisions. The VA has scheduled webinars for June 7 and 8.

Senator Durbin Announces Plan to Examine Campus Debit Cards

In response to a report published by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group, Senator Durbin announced on May 30 his interest in examining bank-affiliated campus cards.

New Report Shows Recent Trends in Postsecondary Revenues and Expenses

A new report from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) shows that both public and private non-profit colleges and universities are increasingly relying on tuition and fees revenue to support their operations. Total revenue per full-time equivalent declined at public and independent institutions while expenditures for institutionally funded financial aid to students rose sharply.

NACUBO has collaborated with the Treasury Institute for Higher Education in designing The Tax-Exempt Bond Compliance Workshop, to be held September 10-11, in Indianapolis. ED Issues Correction on Submission of Servicer Contracts

The Department of Education has corrected its recent Dear Colleague letter on third-party servicers. Institutions are only required to submit copies of contracts to ED if they are asked to do so.
