NACUBO is working with other higher education associations to advocate against including in final budget legislation the Trump administration’s proposed harmful cap on facilities and administrative cost reimbursements in NIH grants.

Trump Administration Will Revisit ED Accountability Rules

The Department of Education recently announced new rulemaking efforts pertaining to gainful employment regulations and borrower defense to repayment. Affected institutions still must comply with gainful employment reporting requirements. However, for private institutions, implementation of new financial responsibility rules has been postponed indefinitely.

ED Publishes Guidance on Year-Round Pell and Banking Arrangements

The Department of Education has released information on the implementation of the expanded Pell Grant Program, which begins July 1 and will allow students to receive additional aid during the summer months. Separately, ED provided guidance on the required format for reporting contract data for certain banking arrangements.

Senate Committee Seeks Input on Tax Reform

Tax writers in the U.S. Senate are seeking “the best possible advice and insight from experts and stakeholders” as they work to overhaul the federal tax code. NACUBO encourages institutions to weigh in by the July 17 comment deadline.

U.S. Charitable Donations Reached Record High in 2016, New Report Shows

In 2016, charitable contributions in the U.S. reached an estimated $390.05 billion, according to a new report from Giving USA. Donations to education organizations rose for the seventh year in a row.
