On July 22, President Obama signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, legislation reauthorizing the Workforce Investment Act. Also last week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved two measures aimed at strengthening higher education.

ED Issues Guidance on New Annual Security Report Requirements

The Department of Education has released guidance to institutions regarding their responsibility to comply with changes to the Clery Act made by the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Colleges and universities must make a good-faith effort to incorporate new policy statements, procedures, and programs in their annual security reports issued by October 1.

Volunteers Needed for OPEB Field Tests

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board is seeking field test volunteers for its proposed other postemployment benefits requirements.

NCES Report Describes Employment Outcomes of Recent College Graduates

A recent report from the National Center for Education Statistics, based on the second follow-up to the Baccalaureate and Beyond Longitudinal Study, summarizes the career and life paths of students who completed their bachelor’s degree during academic year 2007-08. The survey results show that four years after college these graduates were more likely to be employed than non-graduates, despite the 2008-09 economic recession.

NACUBO Honors Innovation and Achievement at 2014 Annual Meeting

In conjunction with NACUBO’s 44th Annual Meeting in Seattle, eight higher education business professionals and five higher education institutions were recognized for excellence and achievement in the management of college and university business operations and affairs. NACUBO honored the awardees during a special ceremony held July 20. Read more here
