House Lawmakers Reject Trump F&A Proposal

Facilities and administrative cost reimbursements for National Institutes of Health grants have been explicitly protected by provisions in a publicly released draft of the Health and Human Services FY18 funding bill. Lawmakers called proposed caps “misguided” and “devastating.” However, the bill has yet to be voted on by the full House.

NACUBO Urges ED to Revise Financial Responsibility Standards

In response to the Department of Education’s recent decision to reconsider its gainful employment and borrower defense rules, NACUBO recommended that a separate negotiating panel be convened to consider changes to the financial responsibility standards.

GASB Issues Leasing Guidance

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board issued its new standard on accounting for leases. Because all leases will be considered financings of the right to use an underlying asset, the new guidance establishes a single approach to accounting for and reporting leases.

NACUBO Weighs In on Tax Reform

NACUBO asked lawmakers to examine the potential consequences of proposals that could impact how tax-exempt organizations are financed, as well as employee tax benefits and student and family higher education tax benefits.

National Center for Education Statistics Releases Data on Enrollment, Tuition and Fees, and Degrees Awarded

More than 26.9 million students were enrolled in U.S. postsecondary institutions in 2015-16, according to new data released by NCES. The report also looks at trends in costs of attending college from 2014-15 to 2016-17, and the number of degrees and certificates awarded in 2015-16.
