NACUBO recently joined the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and other organizations in urging President-elect Donald Trump to keep Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) measures in place. Congress Makes Changes to GI Bill Education Benefits

The administrative "reporting fee" paid to institutions has dropped by one-third but will rebound slightly later this year. Additionally, schools will need to report academic progress information to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

CFPB Report Criticizes Campus Banking Agreements

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau released a report analyzing college-sponsored agreements with banks and expressed concerns regarding affiliated fees and marketing agreements. The CFPB also published a compliance bulletin reiterating disclosure obligations related to school-sponsored credit card agreements.

GASB's New Standard Covers Asset Retirement Obligations

In an effort to standardize financial reporting when laws govern how certain assets are retired from use, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board issued Statement No. 83, "Certain Asset Retirement Obligations," in December. The new standard is effective in FY19 for public institutions.

ED Finalizes State Authorization for Distance Education Rules

After a protracted rulemaking effort, the Department of Education issued final rules on state authorization for distance education and foreign locations of domestic institutions. Whether the rules take effect as planned, however, is up to the incoming administration.
