Summary
The Secretary amends the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program and the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program regulations. These final regulations implement changes made to the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, (HEA) by the Higher Education Amendments of 1998 (1998 Amendments). The final regulations implement the teacher loan forgiveness programs in the FFEL and Direct Loan programs that were included in the 1998 Amendments. In addition, these final regulations make conforming changes for both the FFEL Program and the Direct Loan Program, as well as unrelated technical amendments to the Direct Loan Program regulations.
