FIPSE Invites Applications for FY11 Awards
March 24, 2011
The Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) is accepting applications for grants until May 23. Institutions of higher education, groups of institutions, or other public and nonprofit organizations are eligible to compete for three-year awards ranging from $500,000-$750,000 each. FIPSE, which is part of the Department of Education, estimates that it will fund 28 projects using some $20 million available. In today’s uncertain budget environment, that amount could be subject to change.
The grant announcement listed several priorities for this year’s competition including:
- Increasing the number and proportion of high-need students who persist and complete college
- Improving postsecondary student outcomes relating to enrollment, persistence, and completion through collecting, analyzing, and using high-quality data
- Increasing efficiency in the use of time, staff, money, or other resources while improving student learning or other educational outcomes
- Aligning curriculum between high schools and colleges
- Reducing instructional costs by improving productivity
