Overview

This preconference is designed for those new to the business office, student financial services, or the higher education workplace, or those who just want a refresher on the core responsibilities of the student accounts area.  

Topics will include:

  • Functions and organization of the office
  • Departmental relationships
  • Daily operations at the director level (budget, internal controls, technology, talent management, auditor relationships)
  • Daily operations at the office level (billing, payments, refunds, delinquent accounts)
  • Customer service and communications
  • Loan administration
  • Regulations and legislation such as FERPA, HIPAA , SOX, PCI compliance, and Red Flags rules
  • Resources to assist the SFS office, including associations, websites, listservs, and networking programs
  • Latest trends, together with mobile apps and social media
