Learning Levels
The following are NACUBO's program learning levels based on NASBA requirements.
Overview
Provides a general review of a subject area from a broad perspective. These programs may be appropriate for professionals at all organizational levels.
Prerequisite
No advanced preparation required. Material directed to staff within the college/university business office.
Update
Provides a general review of new developments. This level is for participants with a background in the subject area who desire to keep current.
Prerequisite
No advanced preparation required. Material directed to staff within the college/university business office.
Basic
Most beneficial to CPAs new to a skill or an attribute. These individuals are often at the staff or entry level in organizations, although such programs may also benefit a seasoned professional with limited exposure to the indicated topic area.
Prerequisite
No advanced preparation required. Material directed to staff within the college/university business office.
Intermediate
Builds on a basic program, most appropriate for CPAs with detailed knowledge in the indicated topic area. Such persons are often at a mid-level within the organization, with operational and/or supervisory responsibilities.
Prerequisite
No advanced preparation required. Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a professional in higher education or a related private industry. Material directed to mid-level personnel within the college/university business office.
Advanced
Most useful for individuals with mastery of the particular topic. This level focuses on the development of in-depth knowledge, a variety of skills, or a broader range of applications. Advanced level programs are often appropriate for seasoned professionals within organizations; however, they may also be beneficial for other professionals with specialized knowledge in the indicated subject area
Prerequisite
No advanced preparation required. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a senior level or chief officer position in higher education or related private industry. Material directed to senior-level personnel within the college/university business office.
Basic to Intermediate
Most beneficial to CPAs new to a skill or an attribute, CPAs with 1-2 years of experience, or those seeking a refresher course.
Basic to Advanced
Useful for all higher education and financial management professionals. This level focuses on a variety of skills and a broad range of applications.
Intermediate to Advanced
Most beneficial to CPAs with detailed knowledge in the topic area, as well as seasoned professionals. Fundamentals regarding topic area are not addressed.
