Using Web-Based Tools for Discussing Change in Institutional Financial Aid Policy

Wednesday, May 11, 2016 1:00PM ET

With funding from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, NACUBO and the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) launched the Looking under the Hood Institutional Aid Metrics Project in 2012. As a result, NACUBO and AGB have developed a web-based tool with more than 30 different institutional aid metrics and other measures of student financial aid, enrollment, and persistence. The online resource enables campus leaders to examine their current institutional aid allocations and compare their data with self-selected sets of peer institutions. To date, more than 1,000 chief business officers and other leaders at higher education institutions have registered to utilize the online resource.
In this webcast, free to NACUBO and AGB members, you will learn how two institutions have used the tool to help make informed, data-driven decisions about institutional aid policy.  The panelists will also talk about the complexity of the factors that go into enrollment and financial aid decisions.
Additionally, the speakers will give an overview of the web-based Looking Under the Hood tool and provide instructions for how campus leaders can sign up for access.

After participating in this program you will be able to:

  • Learn how to use the Looking Under the Hood web-based tool to compare trends in instructional grant aid expenditures at your institution compared with self-selected peer campuses.
  • Evaluate recent trends in the use of various institutional aid strategies, such as merit-based grants, and their effects on enrollment.
  • Appraise the enrollment and other questions and challenges posed by rising institutional grant aid expenditures.
