OD: Examining the Risks of Operating in the Cloud

Overview

Your institution already may have entered the cloud—by using one or more technology assets (hardware, software, or networking capability) remotely, via the Internet, instead of installing them on campus. Although moving limited operations to the cloud may have created little risk, the types of cloud offerings now have multiplied, and so have the risks. Before entering into agreement for cloud computing services chief technology, finance, and information officers have to assess the vendor’s risk profile and examine their reliability and performance.

Led by Roger Bruszewski, vice president for administration and finance at Millersville University, panelists Philip Porter, partner, Hogan Lovells, and Tammy Clark, chief information security officer, Georgia State University will discuss common pitfalls information security strategies, compliance issues with state and federal regulations and how to manage risks as more assets move to the cloud.
