OD: Funding the Transformation of the Modern Urban University

Recorded on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 1:00PM ET

The modern urban university must offer state-of-the-art facilities for instruction and research, as well as high-quality student housing, dining, and amenities to recruit and retain the best students and faculty within the city it serves. There are many ways that institutions can — and should — extend their own capital by leveraging alternative funding sources including third-party developers, donor dollars, tax credits and government programs.

This webcast will illustrate Drexel University’s recent physical transformation and demonstrate how universities can integrate third-party investment, as well as philanthropic and government funding, with institutional capital investment to expand academic, residential, retail and mixed-use facilities.
Speakers will discuss the benefits and best practices related to selecting development partners.  This includes how entering into long-term contracts with third-party developers to enhance residential facilities and amenities enables universities to focus institutional investment on academic and research needs.  They will also highlight funding opportunities that may be available at the federal, state and local level to further maximize university capital investments.
