Cybersecurity: A Primer for Higher Education Leadership

Thursday, March 22, 2018 1:00 PM ET

Overview

There has been a significant increase in high-profile data breaches, cybersecurity threats, and related vulnerabilities across many industries, including the higher education sector. It has become clear that the impact of a data breach can be significant to the operations, reputation, and even the very mission of a higher education institution. Join us to obtain an overview of recent trends and related strategies to safeguard your data and technology infrastructure that are essential to survival and continued success in today’s technology-enabled environment.

We will explore the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) framework and how it can be used to assess current capabilities and develop a roadmap toward improved cybersecurity practices. Further, we will delve into each of the components of the framework and discuss solution offerings, including:
  • Identify – an understanding of how to manage cybersecurity risks to systems, assets, data, and capabilities.
  • Protect – the controls and safeguards necessary to protect or deter cybersecurity threats.
  • Detect – continuous monitoring to provide proactive and real-time alerts of cybersecurity-related events.
  • Respond – incident response activities in place at the institution with respect to response planning, communications, analysis, mitigation, and improvements.
  • Recover – business continuity plans to maintain resilience and recover capabilities after a cyber breach.
