House Lawmakers Rush Higher Education Act Reauthorization

The House Education and the Workforce Committee will mark up a bill reauthorizing the Higher Education Act on December 12, just 11 days after making the 542-page document public. The bill includes some elements to streamline regulatory burden but also makes significant changes to Title IV aid programs.

Congress Passes Short-Term Solution to Avoid Government Shutdown

As tax reform efforts continue, Congress voted to pass an additional continuing resolution to fund the government beyond the previous resolution’s December 8 deadline, but the possibility of a year-end federal government shutdown looms.

GASB Equity Interest Proposal Considers Endowment Funds

The Governmental Accounting Standards Board’s Exposure Draft, “Accounting and Reporting for Majority Equity Interests,” issued in November, will require a majority equity interest investment to be measured using the equity method unless it is held in an endowment fund. Comments are due January 18, 2018.
