Sustainable Energy Factbook Released

February 22, 2016

The 2016 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook is now available to download and may help guide campuses contemplating an expansion into renewables.

Capital costs for renewables have been declining, which will lower initial and operational costs as well as decrease the campus carbon footprint. These alternatives are important elements to evaluate as most campuses are facing aging infrastructure in their physical plants.

An infographic on the report highlights key elements such as availability and costs of geothermal, wind, solar, and other elements. Graphics in the report also indicate the increase in the "green industry" job market, which campus leadership should consider as they build their students' skill sets for workforce growth.

One example in the report shows renewables have significantly increased by fuel type. This increased accessibility and reliability, and decreased cost are all options for the business office to reevaluate, with their partners, as they seek out renewables to save utility costs and reduce the carbon footprint.
