Participate in the 2017 Key Facilities Metrics Survey

September 5, 2017

Just as campus financial leaders can recite pertinent campus facts—cost of tuition, number of students, types of academic programs—it is equally important to know basic operational consumption data.  After salaries, running the physical plant is usually the second-highest cost for an institution.

The annual Key Facilities Metrics Survey from NACUBO and APPA is now available and can help you benchmark your campus’ consumption. Fill out the survey with the 2016-17 data by December 11 on these key consumption elements: BTU (energy), electrical, water, waste, and carbon. This simple data can be gleaned from vendor information.

Fill out as many of these elements as possible to advance your decision making, as comparing this data from year to year can assist in reducing consumption and costs. The data can also be used to inform students and faculty of behavior changes or as proof that projects are reducing consumption to save on operational costs.

The 2017 survey is available online. For a hard copy of the survey or for any questions, please contact Sally Grans Korsh, director of facilities and environmental policy, at
