2014-15 Key Facilities Metrics Survey Results Now Available

May 2, 2016

The results are in for the 2014-15 APPA/NACUBO Key Facilities Metrics survey.  In the survey's second year, 279 campuses from all regions and institution types participated, up from 240 institutions in the first year.

The Key Facilities Metrics survey provides important statistics on BTU, electrical, water, waste, and carbon. Just as higher education leaders know pertinent campus facts such as the cost of tuition, types of academic programs, and number of students, it is also critical for campus finance and facilities professionals to recognize basic facilities data to improve strategic planning.

To assist campuses, medians for the 2014-15 data were created using the four NACUBO constituent councils: Community Colleges, Small Institutions, Comprehensive and Doctoral Institutions, and Research Universities. There are some differences from the 2013-14 APPA categories due to region, weather (degree days), programs, and differences in data entry. The median results are noted here.

To see the full results, log in to and select myResearch. Click the 2014-15 APPA/NACUBO Key Facilities Metrics Report. This will take you to a description of the survey and then you can select "Launch Dashboards" to view a variety of reports. If you did not participate in the survey, you can still review general region and institution type ranges.

Campus administrators are urged to evaluate their institution's consumption information annually to identify areas of improvement.  The next survey opens in September.
