11 Campuses Named 2016 Green Ribbon Schools

The Department of Education on April 22 announced 11 higher education institutions as 2016 Green Ribbon Schools (ED-GRS).

The award recognizes efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, improve health and wellness, and implement effective environmental education. The 11 Green Ribbon campuses are as follows:

  • University of Montevallo (Alabama)                                         
  • University of Colorado Colorado Springs
  • Georgia Institute of Technology 
  • Hawkeye Community College (Iowa)
  • Berea College (Kentucky)                                                              
  • University of Louisiana at Lafayette
  • Macalester College (Minnesota)                                                
  • Raritan Valley Community College (New Jersey)        
  • Elon University (North Carolina)                                                 
  • Slippery Rock University (Pennsylvania)     
  • University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

This was the second year ED included postsecondary institutions in its Green Ribbon Schools awards. For specifics on each school's success, see their submissions. In addition to the higher education awardees, ED recognized 47 schools and 15 school districts.
