More First in the World grants available, a new compliance calendar on institutional reporting and disclosure requirements, plus a template colleges and universities might find useful when designing financial literacy programs—all in a roundup of news from the Department of Education.

  • Another $60 million is available this year for First in the World Grants, to help colleges and universities test new approaches to improving student outcomes and fostering success among disadvantaged students. ED has set aside $16 million for minority-serving institutions. The application deadline is June 26.
  • ED has published the compliance calendar on institutional reporting and disclosure requirements, mandated by the Higher Education Opportunity Act, as an appendix to the Student Financial Assistance Handbook.
  • ED has developed a template that schools might use when designing financial literacy programs for students.
