Administrator and Mid-level Administrator Salaries Increase

For the 2004-05 academic year, median salaries for college administrators and mid-level administrators rose by 3 percent and 3.3 percent respectively from 2003-04, according to an annual survey conducted by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).  Both increases outpaced inflation; the 2004 Consumer Price Index was 2.5 percent higher than at the same time in 2003.

Overall, salaries at independent institutions rose slightly more than those at public institutions. The highest-paid administrators are deans of medicine, with a median salary of $326,173, while the administrator job title with the lowest salary is assistant registrar at $37,359. For mid-level administrators, the highest median salary of $119,171 is that of staff physicians, while the lowest belongs to security guards at $24,317.
