New Business Officers Learn From Peers
From as far away as Australia and Saudi Arabia to as close-by as the University of Tampa, 46 new business officers made their way to NACUBO's New Business Officers Program in Tampa for a two-day workshop before the annual meeting. More than half the attendees were brand-new to the field of higher education, having come from other sectors that included health care, publishing, consulting, and the military.
Representing all NACUBO constituent groups—research institutions, comprehensive and doctoral institutions, community colleges, and small institutions—the attendees reported that they found the time spent learning from their more seasoned colleagues invaluable. One attendee commented, "I'd like to attend again a year from now, if only to have another opportunity to affirm what I learned and measure progress." Another participant added, "For managers at our senior level, exchanging ideas with real practitioners is by far the most valuable thing we can get in professional development."
The New Business Officers Program is designed for chief business and financial officers who report directly to the president and who have been in their current positions for three years or fewer.
