"The federal government's rulemaking effort on borrower defense to repayment is vitally important, but we have grave concerns about the Department of Education's expansion of institutional financial responsibility indicators within the proposed rule," NACUBO President and CEO John Walda said in an August 2 statement.

IRS Proposes Modifications to 1098-T Reporting

Draft rules reflect several changes related to 1098-T reporting enacted last year, including the elimination of the option for colleges and universities to report amounts billed to students for qualified tuition and related expenses. Additional proposals go beyond the statutory changes.

ED Policy to Require Annual Student Aid Compliance Audits Beginning FY17

The Department of Education also has requested that institutions contact their respective School Participation Division if they have had an auditor prepare a Single Audit under the 2013 OMB Single Audit Act regulatory provisions with a determination that the Title IV programs were low risk.
