In an August 20 letter to the Financial Accounting Standards Board, NACUBO submitted comments on a proposal that would change the look and nature of Not-for-Profit financial statements. NACUBO cautioned FASB on a number of fronts and provided examples illustrating the complexity and confusion that the proposed Statement of Activities and Statement of Cash Flows might cause.

Results Are In: The 2014 NACUBO Tuition Discounting Study

The latest annual survey on tuition discounting from NACUBO shows continued trends of discounting prices and distributing institutional grant aid to an increasingly large share of undergraduate students.

NLRB Dismisses Union Bid from Northwestern Football Players

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) declined to rule on whether athletes should be considered employees of the institution who have a right to organize. Considering an appeal from a 2014 regional ruling that categorized Northwestern University football players receiving scholarships as employees of the institution who had a right to form a union, the NLRB unanimously dismissed the players' petition.

153 Campuses Named "Cool Schools"

SIERRA magazine recently released its list of "America’s Greenest Universities," also known as "Cool Schools 2015." More than 150 colleges and universities earned the honor. While the analysis highlights environmental best practices at campuses across the country, it also shows there is still room for improvement.

ED Discontinues The Blue Book

The Department of Education has decided to stop publishing its manual for business officers on accounting for federal student aid programs, known as The Blue Book. Much of the content has been incorporated into the Federal Student Aid Handbook.

Share Your Expertise at the NACUBO 2016 Annual Meeting

With the theme, "Les Fondations for the Future," the NACUBO 2016 Annual Meeting will explore new models in higher education while building on the strong foundations that have already been established. Share your campus success stories and lessons learned by submitting a proposal to present. The call for presentations will remain open until October 13. 


December Workshop on Bond Compliance Issues

In collaboration with NACUBO, the Treasury Institute for Higher Education is facilitating its fourth Tax Exempt Bond Compliance Workshop. This year's event is being held December 7-9 in Orlando and is geared toward university staff with bond compliance responsibilities. In an interactive setting, participants will learn best practices and develop successful strategies for tax exempt bond compliance. An optional pre-workshop primer session is also offered.
