NACUBO Responds to GASB's Fair Value Proposal
In an August 15 letter to the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), NACUBO submitted comments concerning GASB’s Exposure Draft, “Fair Value Measurement and Application.” NACUBO drew from member institutions with complex endowment investment instruments to advise GASB.

IRS Again Issues 1098-T Fine Notices

In early August, colleges and universities began receiving notices of proposed fines from the Internal Revenue Service for filing Form 1098-T with missing or incorrect taxpayer identification numbers for 2012. NACUBO had earlier received verbal assurances from IRS officials, after they decided to waive all fines for 2011, that the Service would not issue such notices for 2012.

SEC Approves Money Market Fund Reform

On August 14, the Securities and Exchange Commission published final rules fundamentally reforming the way money market funds operate, with exceptions for government and retail money market funds.

Clearinghouse Report Finds Many Former Students Without a Degree Can Be "Potential Completers"

A report by the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center finds that more than 31 million former college students left without earning a degree or certificate during the last two decades. The report also shows equal proportions of former students with two or more years of progress toward a degree (potential completers) were just as likely to have been enrolled exclusively at four-year institutions as they were at two-year institutions.

NACUBO 2015 Annual Meeting Call for Presentations Now Open

NACUBO is seeking proposals for concurrent sessions and corporate showcases that offer in-depth and practical treatments of present-day issues facing the higher education community. Submissions should highlight solutions, initiate provocative discussions, and share effective strategies. 

Proposal Deadline: 11:59 p.m., ET, October 14, 2014. 

The NACUBO 2015 Annual Meeting will take place in Nashville, Tenn., July 18-21, 2015.
