Comprehensive and Doctoral Institutions Council

The Comprehensive and Doctoral Institutions Council (CDIC) is a standing council appointed by the NACUBO President in consultation with the regional associations. The Council is established to ensure that issues of specific concern to comprehensive and doctoral colleges and universities are represented and addressed in the development of the association’s strategic plans and in the creation of programs, products, and services for its members. The Comprehensive and Doctoral Institutions Council serves as an advisory body to the President and staff by providing suggestions, feedback, and support for the association’s goals and activities as they pertain to the constituency.

Goal 1: Equip business officers with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed.

  • Provide training to help business officers communicate the changing environment in higher education business models and business practices
  • Establish key data points/factors for discussions at the cabinet level.
  • Create a seminar for senior leaders that addresses executive alignment, strategic direction, change management, and cost reduction success stories.

Goal 2: Present the case for the value of higher education and advocate for policies that support colleges and universities.

  • Publicize the message that CBOs are hard at work to transform their institutions.
  • Emphasize that one higher education business model will not fit all institutions.
  • Communicate the reality of the economic benefit of higher education to the public.
  • Own the message about cost of college and use it to educate the public.

Goal 3: Identify new challenges facing higher education and expand offerings to address future issues.

  • Help CBOs to be in a position to provide leadership on distance learning, learning management systems, and affordable traditional textbook and textbook options for their campus.
  • Explore a shared services model for distance learning courses.
  • Research the issue of student completion.

Top Issues for 2020 and Beyond
