2011 Annual Meeting Service Project

The 2011 NACUBO Serving the Community Service Project was held at A.J. Ferrell Middle School in Tampa, FL on Saturday, July 9. More than 85 volunteers helped prepare the school to open its’ doors in August 2011 as the first public girls’ academy in Hillsborough County. TIAA-CREF and HandsOn Tampa Bay partnered with NACUBO on this project, with additional support provided by ARAMARK Higher Education, Microsoft, SunGard Higher Education, HD Supply Facilities Maintenance and the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers. Volunteers painted offices and common areas, assembled furniture, landscaped the school grounds and created a new resource center for the teachers and administrators.

Agency Description: Ferrill will be a 21st century learning environment utilizing iPads, interactive white boards, laptops, etc to its’ classrooms. Each academy student will receive an iPad for school use. The school resides in a disadvantaged area of the county. During the previous school year, seventy percent of enrolled students were African American and twelve percent were Hispanic. >>Visit the school website
